The Midnight Hour
Annabeth looked around the corner of the building. It was Halloween night, 11:33 to be exact. Her silver witch costume sparkled in the moonlight. Her friend Jessica stood right behind her in a ninja suit.
“The boys said they attack us at midnight,” she whispered. She stood against the wall and looked at her friend. “You brought the amo right.”
“I wouldn’t forget! That’s the whole reason we’re out here” A bucket filled with blue water balloons, but it wasn’t water inside them! Each balloon was filled with cheap cologne and perfume.
“See you girls didn’t chicken out,” called a voice from around the corner. Annabeth snatched a balloon from the bucket.
“We’ll have you wishing we did!” she shouted and leapt around the corner. She spotted Jason and launched the balloon. It hit right on his chest splashing the overpowering flowery scent all over him.
He coughed for a minute before throwing one of his balloons at her. Silly string covered her from head to toe. How did they manage to get it in there? She wondered. Jessica had already launched two more balloons both of them hitting one of the three boys.
Half an hour later the balloons were still flying though on low supply. The large clock on the square hit midnight and the world froze several balloons in mid-air.
The girl had fair skin, and black hair. Her eyes were narrow and slightly angled, they resembled a rainbow on a black background. She wore a long violet dress that if she walked it would trail along the ground. A diamond and silver necklace was draped around her neck, a matching bracelet decorating her wrist. A silver tiara with an assortment of diamonds and purple gems rested on her head. She sat in a high chair the back towering above her. Beside her sat an older man. His chair managed the large feat of towering over the princess’s one, which was already ridiculously tall. His coal back beard was cut close to his face. But the most noticeable thing about the two royal people was their fangs. They stuck out gently over the edge of their lip. They were snow white if not whiter.
They were the king and princess, and they were vampires. They ruled all vampires, in the land called Dusk. After her mother was killed by the humans her father changed their lands name to Dusk after his beloved wife.
The princess’ name was Dawn. She waited with her father for the peasants to come and ask for things they needed.
An olive skinned girl sat in a chair made out of vines. The walls around her consisted of trees and bushes. High above the sun shone through and glinted off her amber hair. Her eyes were chocolate brown, and her ears were pointed.
She was the last princess of The Forest. Her people were growing weak and the forest was losing its abundance of food. Her people could only hunt at night, but there too many people, and not enough animals. In The Forest dwelled the werewolves.
A wave rippled above the silver haired girl. Her eyes were an icy blue. Her fins were silver like her hair. Her mother a pink haired mermaid sat to her left. Next to her mother sat the king, her father. He was a golden haired merman and held all the power of the sea. Someday soon she would be the queen and she’d have her father’s power.
Brown hair covered the face of a young girl. She flew underneath the moon, and high above her kingdom. Her hawk like body soared, and every now and then she flapped her golden wings. She landed in a towering tree and looked around her. The eyes of her people watched her every move.
Dawn strode through the dark hallway. Outside the moon shone bright and glinted off her white teeth. “I see you’re up,” said her father walking silently up behind her.
I ducked and slice through the air with my sword. My opponent hit me hard in the chest returning my attempt with actual success. I pulled of my mask, my dark brown hair fell around my shoulders.
“Beat you again,” said my little brother. HE took of his mask and stuck out his tongue.
“Oh yeah,” I replied sharply. With a flick of my wrist I had tossed the mask over my shoulder and darted forward at lightning speed and held my sword to his neck. The swords we used were light and had no sharp edge. To me and my brother it was like fencing except cooler.
He moved around the edge of the sword and bowed. “Say it!”
“Do I have too?” He sighed not even looking up and said, “I Erik have died at the hands of the almighty Warkey. She lives up to her name.”
(My name embarrassed me since my first day of school. My parents always told me that my name was destined for me. Be serious and name like Warkey must mean your parents have lost it…right?)
“Warkey, Erik, come upstairs,” my mom called from the kitchen.
“Lets go.” I unzipped my suit and took it off revealing my school clothes underneath. I ran up the stairs leaving my brother behind me.
“Eat your breakfast and get to school, or you’re going to be late…again.” She placed a plate of scrambled eggs and toast in front of me. My brother came dashing up the stairs and wolfed down the pie of eggs on a plate. I looked at him, and I rolled my eyes.
“Your such a pig,” I muttered under my breath. IT was loud enough for my brother to hear but soft enough that my mom couldn’t.
“Warkey!” said to me sharply without turning away from the mail she was looking over.
“How do you hear that well?” I asked. She always heard everything…always!
“You’ll learn soon enough Warkey, soon enough,” with that she brought a bowl of cereal to the table and took a sthingyful.
I sighed. Why did my parents have to be so weird. Every question... I looked down at my watch. 6:50 it read. “Gotta go mom,” I said. I kissed her on the cheek and ran out the door.
Chapter 1
I pulled the scrunchy out of my thick hair and slipped it onto my wrist. I looked up at the sky and smiled. It had been a good day. Claire only teased her once and she had aced her social studies test. After a few more steps the ground dropped out from underneath her. Her eyes glanced around. She was falling...fast. She was surrounded by rocks clay earth nd who knows what.
She tried to move her arms up to cover her head but they were pinned to her side by the force of the air
“Everyone wishes that they had a soundtrack to their life. Well I do and its saved me more than once. Here’s how I use my special abilities, to save the world.”
Elizabeth walked down the street. She bounced a basketball as she walked. Soft music played in the background, normal, happy, everyday sounding music. She deliberately walked out into the street and kept on bouncing the basketball. A truck came up behind her and the music turned suspenseful. She walked over to the side and it passed her.
A cell phone started ringing and she answered her phone.
“Elly, we got a new hit,” said her best friend Roxy.
She picked up the basketball and stopped walking, “Where to this time?”
“South Dakota, a random farm being held hostage,” she replied.
“How long do they have?”
“Two days.”
She bit her lip, “Plane ticket?” It was pretty hard to get to some of these places. Once we she had to get to Hawaii. She made it there with minutes to spare.
Maddy walked down the hall her hand brushing it the whole way to her classroom. Jessica caught up to her, “Hey, Mad!”
“What’s up?”
“Justin, he is so cute!” Jessica had been obsessing over Justin for about week now. It was starting to get on Maddy’s nerves. “He’s going to ask me out today! I know it.”
“And what are you going to say?”
“No!” she replied ecstatically. “Ignoring him will only make it harder for him to resist me.”
Maddy rolled her eyes. Did Jessica actually think that turning him down would turn him on even more? She decided that her friend had finally lost it. “You’ve gone insane,” she laughed, sidestepping a blue square tile.
“I know. Well see you later,” she replied and turned to go to her class.
Maddy walked into her classroom, and placed her books down on her desk before dusting off her seat, and finally sitting down. Her OCD had really been acting up today. (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.)
